Results are estimates, not manufacturer-equivalent yields — actual coverage varies by jobsite conditions, tile porosity, installation technique, and the specific product selected. All inputs are converted to metric for calculation, then results are converted to your chosen display units.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Don't let these errors cost you time and money

Not checking the product's joint-width rating

Sanded/unsanded rules are only general guidance. Each grout product has a specific permitted joint-width range printed on its technical data sheet. Using grout outside its rated range can cause cracking, voids, or failure. Always verify before purchasing.

Forgetting the waste factor

Always add at least 10% for cuts, spillage, and irregular areas. Complex layouts or first-time tilers may want 15–20%. Ordering the exact calculated amount almost guarantees you'll run short mid-project.

Rounding down on package count

Always round up to the nearest full package. Running out of grout mid-project means color-matching issues between batches and extra trips to the store. An unopened package can be returned — a half-filled joint cannot.

Treating grout as waterproofing

No grout — including epoxy — makes a tile assembly waterproof. Waterproofing comes from a separate membrane installed behind or under the tile. For wet areas like showers, always install a proper waterproofing system per TCNA/ANSI standards before tiling.
