How to Calculate Tire Diameter from a Tire Code

Let's calculate the diameter for 225/65R17:

  1. Sidewall height: 225 mm × 65 / 100 = 146.25 mm
  2. Sidewall in inches: 146.25 ÷ 25.4 = 5.76"
  3. Overall diameter: 17" rim + 2 × 5.76" = 28.5"
