Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains how Ganak.app ("Ganak", "we", "us") uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on our website. We want to be transparent about how and why certain information may be stored on or retrieved from your device when you use our Site.
What Are Cookies and Local Storage?
Cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, smartphone, etc.) by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, or work more efficiently, as well as to provide information to the site owners. Cookies can serve various functions: from keeping you logged in, to remembering site preferences, to tracking your site usage for analytics or advertising purposes.
Local Storage
Local Storage is a browser feature that allows websites to store data on your device, similar to cookies but typically larger and more persistent. Unlike cookies, data in local storage is not automatically sent to the server with each request — it is accessed via scripts on the page. We treat local storage as a similar technology to cookies for policy purposes since it also stores information on a user's device.
There are also other technologies like session storage, web beacons, or pixels, but in this policy, we'll collectively refer to all these as "cookies or similar technologies" for simplicity.
How We Use Cookies/Local Storage
Ganak is proud to say that we keep our use of cookies and similar tech very lean. We currently do not use any third-party advertising or tracking cookies. Here's what is used:
Essential/Functional (User Preference) Storage
We use local storage on your browser to remember your preferences and enhance your experience. Specifically:
Theme Preference
When you toggle between light mode and dark mode on Ganak, we save your choice in your browser's local storage. This allows the site to load in your preferred theme on future visits. This item might appear in your browser's storage under a key like "theme" (as our theme library uses that by default) and stores a value "light" or "dark". This ensures you aren't surprised by a bright or dark screen contrary to your last setting.
Recently Used Calculators
As noted in our Privacy Policy, we store a list of the last few calculator tools you accessed, using local storage (under a key such as "ganak_recently_used"). This list is used to show you quick links to calculators you recently visited, for your convenience. It resides only on your device. If you switch browsers or devices, the list won't follow you (since it's not stored on our servers).
Other Preferences
From time to time, we might introduce other purely functional storage items (for example, if we add a setting to show/hide certain tips or a feature tour, we might remember if you've seen it so as not to show it again). We will treat those the same way – solely on your device, and only for improving your experience.
Analytics
Currently, our analytics solution (Cloudflare Web Analytics) does not set any cookies on your device. It works without cookies by aggregating data at the network level or using a simple script that doesn't use persistent identifiers. This means you won't find any _ga or _gid cookies (which are typical Google Analytics cookies) from our site at this time. Cloudflare's approach is privacy-first and does not track individual users across sites. In the future, if we move to a different analytics provider (like Google Analytics) to get more detailed insights, that provider may set cookies. For instance, Google Analytics uses cookies to distinguish unique users and throttle request rates. We currently do not use Google Analytics, but we mention this as a heads-up for possible future changes. Any such change would be reflected in an updated Cookie Policy (and likely a prompt for consent if required by law).
Cloudflare Cookies (Infrastructure)
Since our site is hosted and delivered through Cloudflare's network, Cloudflare may place certain cookies to ensure the security and efficient delivery of content. For example, Cloudflare sometimes uses a cookie like __cf_bm (Cloudflare bot management) to distinguish between human visitors and bots, or __cflb for load balancing across servers. These cookies are managed by Cloudflare, not us, and are used purely for service functionality (security/performance). They do not track you beyond our site and generally contain non-identifying codes. We do not control these cookies directly, but we want you to be aware of them. You can refer to Cloudflare's cookie documentation for more details on any such cookies.
Cookie Consent
Implied Consent for Functional Use
Because our use of cookies/local storage is minimal and purely for site functionality or aggregate analytics, we do not present an invasive cookie banner at this time. By using our site, we infer that you consent to the placement of the functional storage items mentioned above. These are considered "necessary" for providing you with a user-friendly experience (for example, you likely want us to remember your chosen theme).
For analytics, since Cloudflare's analytics are cookieless and privacy-focused, they typically don't require the same consent as tracking cookies. If we ever introduce analytics or marketing cookies that do require consent (especially for users in jurisdictions like the EU), we will implement a clear consent mechanism (e.g., a cookie banner or settings) at that time.
How to Control or Delete Cookies/Local Storage
You have the right and ability to control cookies and local storage usage:
Browser Settings
Most modern browsers allow you to see what cookies or local storage data a website is using and to clear them. You can typically find these controls in your browser's settings under sections like "Privacy" or "Site Settings". For example, you can delete all data (including cookies and local storage) for a specific site (like ganak.app) or use incognito/private mode to automatically clear them when you close the session.
Opting Out of Analytics
As mentioned, currently there's no Google Analytics or similar to opt out of. But if we introduce them, you could use tools like browser add-ons (e.g., Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on) or built-in tracking protection features in browsers to block those. You could also adjust your cookie consent preferences on our site (once we have such options if needed).
Do Not Track
Some browsers have a "Do Not Track" setting. Since we don't do cross-site tracking, this setting doesn't significantly alter your experience on Ganak. However, our analytics (Cloudflare) likely respects such preferences inherently by not storing identifiable data anyway.
Clearing Preferences
If you ever want to clear the locally stored preferences (like theme or recent items), you can manually remove them via your browser's developer tools or settings. Keep in mind that if you do, the site will reset to default settings (light theme, no recent list) until you use it again.
Please note: If you disable cookies and local storage entirely for our site, certain convenient features may not work properly. For instance, the site won't "remember" your dark mode choice on next visit if local storage is blocked or cleared, meaning it might default to light mode every time which could be less convenient for you.
Updates to this Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy as needed, especially if we change our usage of cookies or introduce new technologies. The "Effective Date" at the top will always indicate when the last changes were made. We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about our use of cookies and similar technologies.
If we make a significant change (for example, starting to use cookies for analytics or advertising), we will provide a prominent notice or prompt (such as a banner asking for consent, if applicable) when you visit the site, in addition to updating this document.
